WCI Waterford

WCI Waterford - Waterford Women’s Centre aims to empower women in the local community by eliminating the barriers to participation in community and create pathways for women to  enhance their potential and to make positive change in their lives. WCI Waterford offer community education and development programmes that support the development of women’s confidence, positive personal growth, health and wellbeing, exploration of their options and support with study skills. Where necessary, WCI Waterford also provide support which facilitates women’s access to supports and services in the wider community.

Testimonial

"Being in the role of a parent for most of my adult life I never had the opportunity to go back to education, as many barriers were stopping me. My self-esteem was at an all-time low. I felt that nothing I had done was right, I was no good at anything anyway. An outreach worker called to my door one day, and I was invited to join a women’s group. I thought that this was going to be a space for coffee and chats. I could not have been more wrong. Little did I know where this group was going to lead me! I learned that community education vs traditional education was a completely different style of learning. With the support of this group, I got through some extremely tough times for this I will be eternally grateful. My weekly participation in the group was essential to me. This was my first experience of women's community education. I knew then that I wanted to educate myself so that I could help others in the same way that I was helped and supported and as a result, I am now studying at third level as a student on the Higher Certificate in Community Education and Development in SETU. I would love to see more people take part in these groups. There are a lot of women in the community who would really benefit from attending." - Pamela.
