PRESS RELEASE
24/11/2025 - Women’s Collective Ireland (WCI) welcomes the new National Strategy for Women and Girls 2025 – 2030 which was led by the Department of Children, Disability and Equality with responsibility for the co-ordination of gender equality policy across Government.
As part of the launch of National Strategy for Women & Girls, the department met with participants of Women's Collective Ireland, to hear first-hand experiences of what the strategy means for women right across the country. Please see link here for the video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Tbr9z8r6yBk
The women from WCI projects were fantastic and did a great job highlighting the need for the goals of the strategy.
WCI projects were involved in the consultation process on this strategy. The Strategy sets out seven key goals to ensure women and girls can thrive at every stage of life — from boosting participation in education and employment to tackling stereotypes, supporting wellbeing, and ensuring women’s needs are central to policy design.
Being Counted: The people who design our policies and laws take me into account
Being Me: I can live free of harmful gender norms and stereotypes
Being a Leader: I can pursue my ambition and achieve my potential in any field
Being Safe: I can live free of violence and harassment
Having a Fair Share: I have a fair share of economic and financial power
Being Well: I am enabled to enjoy wellbeing throughout my life
Being Supported: I am supported when I give care and when I need care
Women’s Collective Ireland CEO Miriam Holt highlights that, “WCI welcome the department’s commitments outlined in the strategy to advance women’s rights and equality; to eradicate women’s discrimination and promote women’s full participation at all levels over the next five years. Disadvantaged women are best placed to identify the impacts of poverty and exclusion and WCI recognises the need for strategy implementation which provides opportunities to enable women to speak their reality, valuing their experience and expertise. We look forward to continuing working with the Department in progressing the actions of the strategy to enable the voices of women experiencing disadvantage to be heard and to have the opportunities to affect decisions and policies that impact on their lives”
